The Nekkie FAQs
How do I wash the Nekkie Blankie? TOP
It is recommended that you wash the blanket in warm to hot wash cycle with additive free detergent, using minimal detergent. You want to avoid causing build-up of detergent on the fabric so as to maximize the blanket’s ability to wick away moisture. If you notice bubbles on your final rinse then it is likely you have used too much detergent. As a general rule of thumb, use about ¼ the detergent manufacturer’s recommendation for the load size. Is Nekkie Blankie patented? TOP
Not at this time. I use cloth diapers, can I wash this blanket with my diapers? TOP
Yes. Be aware that applix tags may cause snags. Why does the Nekkie Blankie use an insert? TOP
Nekkie Blankie is designed with an insert, rather than as a uniform blanket for several reasons. The design allows for Nekkie Blankie to wash and dry quickly and thoroughly. The insert is able to be switched out and to meet the changing and versatile needs of parents and baby. Some families will simply use the Nekkie Blankie for nekkie time, where other families may find that Nekkie Blankie best suits their bed time needs too; with the versatility of Nekkie Blankie additional insert material may be added to accommodate family needs. How do I wash the blanket insert? TOP
Preferably with the same method as the blanket. The Nekkie Blankie insert may experience some additional shrinkage (although they are preshrunk). If snaps fit improperly after washing contact us immediately for a replacement blankie. Inserts will take several washes before the insert reaches it’s full absorption capability. To achieve maximum performance, do not use dryer sheets! Do I need an extra insert? TOP
Perhaps not. An extra insert is great for a heavy wetter, or a family that likes to line dry and wants to be able to use the blanket again very soon after washing. An old towel will work for added absorption, but it is recommended that you put it under the insert that came with your blankie and do not use the snaps in order to achieve maximum feeling of dryness. For more information please read the next FAQ. Do I have to use the Nekkie insert? TOP
You have to use an insert. The blanket will only work if the insert has sufficient absorption capabilities, as well as a fast absorption rate. I have tested countless materials and the ones that I offer are the ones that I have found to create maximum dryness. Why don’t you offer prints? TOP
The reason for this is two-fold. Cotton tends to wick more than polyester (leaving the underside of your Nekkie Blankie moist), and cotton PUL tends to be cost-prohibitive. I would like to keep costs at such a level that the Nekkie Blankie is accessible to families with a wide range of incomes. My Nekkie Blankie feels wet on top after use. TOP
The problem is most likely the insert being used. Either the material has not been washed enough times to absorb well, or the insert is not the appropriate material for the application of Nekkie Blankie. Try folding an old thicker towel in half and placing it as an insert. Pour 2 Tbsp water onto the top of the blanket and check by feeling the top of the fabric with the back of your hand after 15 seconds of time lapse. If the blanket does not feel dry after this test, then it is likely that laundering method need be adjusted with less detergent or an extra rinse.
